Club Soda and Diet

Not allowed on low carb plans, regular sodas and carbonated energy drinks (like Club Soda) are typically 'empty-calorie' foods with no nutrition (except calories) and no dietary fiber. Regular soda is also high in refined carb sugars and high on the Glycemic Index, which means it causes a rapid rise in blood-glucose levels, leading to excessive insulin production and a sudden drop in blood sugar. The longer-term health effects of high-GI foods and consequent unstable blood sugar levels, include periodic hyperglycemia, hyperinsulimia, obesity and other symptoms, known collectively as insulin resistance syndrome.
